Gateway Rachets Up the Power of Its Notebooks with New Intel® Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor

Armed With Intel's New Mobile Processor, Gateway's Notebooks Provide 64-bit Processing, Improved Battery Life and Performance

IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 28 // -- Ushering in the industry's most advanced mobile technology for its business and consumer customers, Gateway is offering new high-performance Intel® Core(TM) 2 Duo processors (up to 2.16GHz, integrated 2 or 4MB L2 cache, 667FSB) with several of its notebook PCs.

Starting on Aug. 31, many Gateway notebook PC models will be available with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor via Gateway's Consumer Direct and Professional sales channels. Gateway's award-winning notebooks based on Intel's latest processor now provide even better performance to satisfy the most demanding computer users.

"Incorporating the Intel Core 2 Duo processor into our Direct and Professional notebook PCs will provide our mobile business customers with more power and improved battery life to meet their needs for faster data processing and overall efficiency," said Gary Elsasser, Gateway vice president -- products. "Our leading products coupled with the assurance that technical support calls will be answered in North America will give our customers a superior computing experience."

Boasting two processing cores or virtual "brains," the Intel Core 2 Duo processor is based on the new Intel Core Microarchitecture, a power-efficient and high-performance microprocessor design. Powered by the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor, Gateway notebooks offer great performance for videos, gaming, and multimedia activities -- especially when users are running multiple applications simultaneously. Aligning with its stable notebook platform program, Gateway mobile PCs with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor don't require a new system image to transition to Intel Core 2 Duo.

"A dramatic leap forward in mobile computing, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor doubles the performance over last year's Intel® Centrino®-based laptops to provide an immersive experience for Gateway notebook users," said Erik Reid, director product marketing, Intel's Mobile Platforms Group. "Combining great battery life with exceptional performance, Intel-based Gateway notebooks will be appreciated by even the most demanding PC enthusiasts."

Service and Support Programs

While many PC vendors go off-shore to save service costs, Gateway's technical telephone support for U.S. Customers is 100-percent based in North America. Gateway customers are assured their calls are handled by knowledgeable, experienced, well-trained and dedicated support agents close to home.

This commitment to superior support and service quality through an investment in experienced, well-trained and dedicated support agents is rooted in the company's newly established Best Practices Center (BPC), based in North Sioux City, S.D. The BPC enables Gateway to better serve its customers by bringing together analytics, tools, technology and people to create service and support-related "best practices" that reinforce the company's long-standing commitment to continuous improvement on customer satisfaction. By handling front-line calls, Gateway can build better diagnostic tools and develop quality solutions that will cascade throughout the service organization and in the field with Gateway's partners.

The new notebook PCs are supported by the company's standard limited warranty options.(1) Additional service and support options are available. Gateway's commitment to quality and reliability is evident in its award-winning line of PCs as well as its exceptional service and support programs. The company's extensive online support center helps customers maximize their PC investment; it gives them easy access to customer support representatives and information on important issues such as warranties, technical issues and upgrading.
