Freudenberg-NOK Highlights Premium, Universal Processing Industry Material at Pack Expo/ Pharma Expo

Fluoroprene® XP, a media-resistant, universal material for the processing industry

CHICAGO – Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies will highlight the advantages of Fluoroprene® XP, a highly fluorinated premium universal material for the processing industry, at the Pack Expo International/ Pharma Expo conference in Chicago this week. This material has already been approved for use by U.S. and European regulators.

Fluoroprene XP's outstanding resistance in both water-based and fatty media has proven crucial to its use in process seals. Until recently, these seals were typically made from ethylene propylene diene monomer (M-class) rubber (EPDM), polydimethylsiloxane (VMQ) or fluoroelastomers (FKM) because they could withstand cleaning-in-place and sterilization-in-place processes as well as steam sterilization and applications involving contact with fats and flavors. Now the advanced processing qualities of Fluoroprene XP offer customers new technology options in an expanded range of products.

Moreover, the Fluoroprene XP family of materials provides all the approvals and authorizations relevant to the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, such as U.S. Food and Drug Administration and European Commission Regulation 1935/2004, 3-A® Sanitary Standards and USP Class VI.

Fluoroprene XP combines the positive attributes of EPDM, VMQ and FKM while offering universal media resistance in all critical areas of the food industry, as well as broad sections of the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Its stability in a wide range of temperature is also impressive.

Fluoroprene XP's low capacity to absorb flavors from product media also makes it highly suitable for use in brewery applications that process and bottle a variety of flavored products on one production line. Seals made of Fluoroprene XP greatly reduce the transfer of flavors to the next product batch.

Fluoroprene XP's unique media resistance makes it possible to protect processes extremely cost-effectively. Storage tests performed with 75 Fluoroprene XP 40 over 168 hours are a good example: They showed that this material is extraordinarily suited to concentrated acids and bases, high temperatures as well as water and steam. It can be used in temperatures ranging between -15 und +200 °C (static).

Freudenberg-NOK has consistently moved the development of 75 Fluoroprene XP 40 and 85 Fluoroprene XP 42 forward. The family now includes the compounds 70 Fluoroprene XP 41 and 85 Fluoroprene XP 43, which have been optimized for injection molding processes, as well as 75 Fluoroprene XP 44, which is particularly suited to the production of metal composite parts, especially diaphragms.

More information on Fluoroprene XP is available from at the Freudenberg-NOK stand at the Pack Expo (Hall West, Stand #978) taking place this week in Chicago.
