Take the Shock Out of Rising Electricity Costs

ROCKFORD, Ill., Mar. 7 - Manufacturers must cope with continuing increases in electricity rates across the country, yet members of the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International (FMA) can help control their utility bills by participating in the organization's affinity programs. Through FMA's affinity partnerships, members are able to access exclusive offers and discounts from leading materials, business and service providers, including electric service.

"This benefit is particularly valuable with recent rate increases in Illinois, Texas, Maryland and other states," said Pat Lee, FMA director of communications, "increases largely due to an expansion of energy sources used to power electric generating plants. As a result of the amplified electricity consumption, some states, such as Illinois, experienced an increase in electricity costs of up to 75 percent. This type of increase can have a devastating effect on small, independent job shops and contract manufacturers."

FMA has teamed with the Affiliated Power Purchasers International (APPI) Savings Solutions Program to help offer the price reductions. APPI, an independent consulting firm, assists members by identifying opportunities to reduce electricity, natural gas, water, waste management, and telecommunications costs. APPI handles the complete process for members which ranges from identifying incorrect billing and securing refunds on inaccurate invoices to evaluating alternate service providers and program options for savings.

There are no up front costs or fees and APPI is only compensated by suppliers when it successfully identifies and negotiates savings for the business.

"This FMA service is a valuable way to provide our members with the resources to operate in a more cost efficient manner, thereby improving their ability to compete in a global economy" said Lee.

Based in Rockford, Ill., the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International is a professional organization with more than 1,800 members working together to improve the metal forming and fabricating industry.
