FKI Logistex Completes USD 10.8 Million Contract With Zappos.com

(St. Louis, Missouri, USA: February 22, 2007) FKI Logistex® (www.fkilogistex.com), a global leader in integrated material handling solutions, announces that it has completed a USD 10.8 million project with Internet shoe and apparel retailer, Zappos.com®, to supply an automated material handling system for its new Shepherdsville, Kentucky distribution center (DC). The project features an end-to-end, integrated solution that automates the material handling in the currently used 416,000-square-foot portion of the 800,000-square-foot DC.

Zappos.com, headquartered in Henderson, Nevada, was founded in 1999 and recorded USD 370 million in gross revenue in 2005. The new system automates material handling, including receiving, presort, put-away, picking, packing and shipping, and will help Zappos.com meet growing customer demand.

"Zappos.com is a major Internet-retailing success story," says Bob Duplain, president, FKI Logistex Warehouse and Distribution North America. "We are honored to partner with Zappos.com as its material handling provider and look forward to participating in the company's long-term growth. This contract win is a strong indication of how well FKI Logistex material handling solutions serve the warehouse and distribution market, not only in conventional brick-and-mortar retail, but in e-commerce operations as well."

The FKI Logistex Zappos.com installation began in late June 2006, and was fast-tracked to completion. FKI Logistex was awarded the contract through Arup®, a global design and business consulting firm based in London. The new DC and automated material handling system will serve as the company's primary warehouse and distribution facility.

In the new system, FKI Logistex provided UniSort® IV belt-powered pop-up wheel sortation systems, high-speed UniSort XV sliding-shoe sortation systems, sawtooth merges, Accuzone® 24-volt transfer conveyors, and Print-and-Apply Modules(TM). FKI Logistex Warehouse Optimizer(TM) software serves as the host and graphic user interface driving the system, which also features FKI Logistex Accuglide(TM) photo-eye conveyor, Accuzone 24-volt motorized roller conveyor, and the FKI Logistex Answer System(TM) monitoring software. The system also includes a series of telescoping boom unloaders and accumulating loaders.
