Fenner Precision Celebrates Long-Standing Relationship with 2009 Queen's Award for Enterprise
Crux Products Limited Receives the Innovation Award for Its Grout Seal Design
Manheim, PA, July 30, 2009 - Fenner Precision, manufacturer of the Crux Products Limited Grout Seals, congratulates their partner on their recent design accomplishment. With a relationship that formed over 20 years ago, Crux Products and Fenner Precision have developed large diameter seals and diaphragms with the largest seal being 5.3m (or 17.3 ft.) in diameter and the largest diaphragm being 2.6m (or 8.5 ft.) in diameter.
Earlier this year, Crux Products became one of 49 United Kingdom companies to win the prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise in the Innovation Sector. Their grout seal design received acknowledgement for demonstrating continuous innovation and development, sustained over not less than five years. This design has resulted in improvements in business performance and commercial success, to levels that are 'outstanding for the size of the applicant's operations.' A total of 135 UK companies received a Queen's Award for Enterprise this year. Recipients were notified of their accomplishment in April 2009 and a formal recognition dinner was held earlier this month in London.
Crux Products approached Fenner Precision with their initial grout seal design in the late '80s. Since then, their relationship has expanded to include licensed manufacturing of a variety of products exclusively for them. Time has also seen a collaborative effort to modify processes and materials, offering a superior and/or cost-effective product. "Originally, Crux came to us with a seal design and an idea of what material to use," explained Kevin Walker, Technical Manager for Fenner Precision. "Over time our team has been able to work with them by product testing and suggesting alternative materials or new technologies that continue the evolution of today's grout seals."
Fenner Precision supplies licensed items for Crux Products Limited for use in the Offshore Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind Energy sectors. These products, such as grout seals and buoyancy diaphragms, are used in offshore construction/installation of substructures supporting facilities and turbines in these fields. Crux product offerings, which solely served the oil and gas sector, expanded into the offshore wind energy business about two years ago. Currently, Crux is providing seals for two of the largest offshore wind farms in Europe: Thanet and Greater Gabbard.
