Expanded Features Boost DS-eTPC Control Capabilities

March 31, 2009

(Pawcatuck, Conn.)--Additional temperature control features and an option for historical data collection have been added to Davis-Standard's DS-eTPC touch-panel control system. The improved system, which offers processors coordinated line control, supports more customers across all product lines while maintaining pricing comparable to discrete controls. These new advantages are included in the DS-eTPC now available for elastomer extruders.

The system's temperature control has been augmented to allow control of up to eight barrel heating and cooling zones per extruder. This enables the system to be used on larger extruders, sheet extruder systems, and for the majority of recycling/reclaim applications. Customers can also name the system's temperature zones and drives for a more user-friendly operator interface.

This augmented temperature control system is widely used on Davis-Standard's 4 ½-inch (114mm), 100 mm and Super Blue® extruder models. It offers coordinated drive control to a one-line drive for the same base price as other discrete devices such as discrete temperature controllers, pressure indicators/controllers and drive operators/indicators. Features include cold start inhibit, high and high-high alarms for each pressure point, recipe creation and storage, and a provision for system networking to a supervisory computer via Ethernet LAN.

The new DS-eTPC "Historian" option package enables the controller to be connected to any PC running Windows Internet Explorer. Customers can capture, view, and store process variables such as temperature profiles, drive conditions, and pressure conditions in a report format for future analysis.
