Essentra Components Announces Externship Program in Collaboration with Erie Institute of Technology

Erie, PA - Essentra Components, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of essential components, announces its partnership with Erie Institute of Technology (EIT) to provide an Externship Program for their Industrial Maintenance and Mechatronics students. Local students aspiring to a career in plastics manufacturing and industrial maintenance will have an opportunity to learn alongside experts at Essentra's flagship North American manufacturing facility located on Station Road in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The Externship Program will teach students how technical and academic course content is used in real-world manufacturing settings. Upon completion, students will be armed with the knowledge and expertise needed to meet current and future industry demand.

Leadership from Essentra and Erie Institute of Technology believe this initiative will encourage current employees to demonstrate how classroom learning is applied in the workplace, and teach students how to apply their hands-on experience back into the classroom.

"The Externship will significantly influence and enhance students "understanding of manufacturing, and demonstrate the range of fantastic career opportunities available with a global organization like Essentra" said Antonio Alva, General Operations Manager, Essentra Components.

"We're excited about the opportunity Essentra has given our Industrial Maintenance and Mechatronics students to supplement their education, and learn and develop their skills in a real-world environment," said Paul Fitzgerald, Director of Erie Institute of Technology. "We are grateful to Essentra Components for its commitment to supporting externships, giving the next generation hands-on experience at a leading manufacturer, right here in our region." The inaugural class of students will work at Essentra Components for 90 hours between August 31 and September 21, 2017. The externships are typically full-time for three weeks, but can be customized to fit curriculum needs.
