Blacksburg, VA — ESS Technologies will be at Pharma Expo, co-located with Pack Expo, to demonstrate a complete filling, capping, and case packing line for bottles. Located in booth # W-674 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, ESS will being running a Model MB 25 Monoblock Filler/Capper integrated with a Model CEL 5 Robotic Case Erector and Loader, which together create a semi-automatic or fully automatic filling, capping, and case packing system ideal for pharmaceutical, nutraceuticals, and cosmetic packaging lines.
Engineered for pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and cosmetic filling/capping applications, the MB 25’s cost effective mechanical drive, filling, and capping systems handle up to 100 small bottles, tubes, or micro-vials per minute. Gravity chutes allow the operator to manually feed containers, caps, and plugs to the starwheel for automatic placement, creating a highly compact and affordable Monoblock filler/capper system. Available in single pitch or dual pitch configurations, the MB 25 offers a range of filling options for liquids, powders, and creams. The mini Monoblock also handles a wide variety of closure types, including screw-on caps, push-on caps, pumps, dispensers, and stoppers.
Containers index directly into the multi-station starwheel which features No Bottle-No Fill-No Cap standard. Each station is inspected to ensure proper fill levels and correct placement of plugs and caps, which may also be fed via optional automatic bowl feeders. An optional automatic reject may be ordered to remove incorrect containers from the production process. For the demonstration at Pharma Expo 2014, the MB 25 will be integrated with the ESS Model CEL 5 Robotic Case Erector and Loader.
The CEL 5 uses a FANUC robot with ESS-designed custom end-of-arm tool (EOAT) to form a compact automatic case packing system. A servo collator at the infeed collates the bottles into the correct pack pattern. The FANUC 6-axis “long arm” robot picks an RSC case from the case magazine, squares the sides, and runs the bottom across a taping system to seal the bottom flaps. Once the robot has placed the case in the load position, it picks the fully created pack pattern and loads the bottles into the case. The robot then pushes the case out of the robotic cell to a manual closing station or optional automatic top case closer. The Model CEL 5 will load up to 5-6 cases per minute and integrates easily with off-the-shelf track and trace systems.
