Eriez Magnetics® Named Manufacturing 'Employer of the Year' By the Economic Development Council of Erie County

Erie-Pa.-The Economic Development Council of Erie County (EDC) named Eriez®, an Erie, Pa.-based manufacturer of magnetic, vibratory and inspection equipment, as the 2006 Employer of the Year in the manufacturing sector of the Erie area. Tim Shuttleworth, Eriez President and CEO, accepted the award on Eriez' behalf at an awards ceremony held on January 25, 2007 at Erie's Ambassador Hotel.

According to its Web site, the Development Council of Erie County serves as the lead economic development agency for the County and works in conjunction with other local and state economic development organizations, as well as with municipalities and government entities, which provide programs, products and services that companies need to be successful in Erie.

Each year, EDC recognizes the best in class for both manufacturing and non-manufacturing companies in the Erie area.

During the January 25 ceremony, at which a crowd of more than 400 people were present, Monica Brower, President and CEO of EDC, addressed the group. Brower commented, "Our community spirit and hometown pride are strengths in which I believe we're second to none. Both unique qualities are reflected and bolstered by the achievements of our Employer of the Year, Eriez."

A well-known local employer, Eriez is highly regarded internationally as well. The company's sales top $100 million per year. Product offerings include vibratory feeders, conveyors, metal detectors, magnets and more. Primary markets include the industries of food processing, metalworking, ceramics and glass processing, packaging, pharmaceuticals, mining, plastics and recycling.
Shuttleworth expressed that this recognition was a result of more than just the company's economic achievements. "This recognition reflects on the way Eriez treats its people at each of our facilities-with honor and respect," he said. The company's unique management philosophy is based on trust. Shuttleworth explains, "At Eriez, there are no time clocks, bells or buzzers. We believe in our employees and strive to create and maintain a supportive, unified work environment for both office and plant staff."

Shuttleworth attributes much of the company's achievements to its valued employees. "We've hired good people from this community-talented people who are the main reason for our success," he said. The company's high regard for its employees and community was made very clear recently when a major expansion was needed to accommodate larger products and increase production capacity. "We never even considered moving out of town," said Shuttleworth. "Erie is our home and we will stay here," he added.

EDC distributed its 2006 annual report at the January 25 awards ceremony. Information on Eriez' recognition as 2006 Manufacturing Employer of the Year is covered in the report.
