Environmental Milestone for Hydro's Phoenix Operation

LINTHICUM, Md. - Hydro's Phoenix operation has achieved one of the highest levels of environmental certification, ISO 14001:2004.

This acknowledgement, by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), recognizes the plant's commitment to managing the ecological impact of its operation and its consideration of environmental issues in its decision-making practices.

The Phoenix operation received the certification for the identification of environmental aspects and impacts and developing targets and objectives to conserve energy, water and reduce waste generation among other things are just a part of the process. The system has been independently assessed by TUV SUD America and will continue to undergo assessment in order to ensure that the standard is maintained.

"We're honored to receive this environmental recognition," says Richard Foote, who is responsible for the extrusion activities at the Phoenix plant. "This acknowledgement resulted from the conscientious efforts of our dedicated plant employees to attain a higher level of environmental achievement as part of Hydro's comprehensive environmental stewardship program."

Tradition of excellence

Mike Stier, who leads the Phoenix operation, which includes a remelting facility as well as the extrusion plant, points out that "Hydro has a tradition of excellence. This is not just limited to the products and services we offer but also includes our commitment to sound environmental practices in the plants we operate."

"Our customers want to partner with suppliers that demonstrate a clear commitment to environmentally sound practices, and we are meeting those expectations."

The Phoenix facility has been an environmental leader since it began operations, incorporating the latest in systems and equipment to assure environmental stewardship. The facility is constantly looking to enhance its environmental performance, as evidenced by this certification.
