Energy Battery Group Joins BCI

The Energy Battery Group (EBG), a close knit buying group of 123 battery distributors, has joined the Battery Council International (BCI). These firms are located throughout the US, Canada and the Caribbean representing small, medium and large battery distributors of all types of battery chemistries and make up. The Energy Battery Group's members are amongst the largest distributors of automotive, commercial, marine, industrial, standby, motorcycle and motive power batteries in North America.

"Adding 89 new companies to BCI's current membership means a 51% increase in members and accomplishes for BCI an incredible growth and potential in a very short period of time, " said Hal Hawk, President of BCI and Crown Battery Company of Fremont, Ohio. This recent membership campaign is part of BCI's new 2006 strategic plan which calls for an aggressive membership recruitment to all segments of the battery distribution channel.

"We were very impressed with BCI's invitation to join the association and commitment to the battery distributor," said Rick Hallock, President of EBG. "This initiative gives our members, both individually and collectively, the opportunity to learn and understand more about our industry, while providing the manufacturers a better understanding about the challenges that confront the battery specialist distributing their products. This is a big step for both the BCI and EBG; we are excited to be a part of such a prestigious group of companies that are represented in the BCI."

The invitation was presented to the EBG membership at their recent annual conference in Denver, CO. Speaking before the assembled body was Hawk, BCI Executive Vice President Maurice Desmarais and Dick Amistadi of Hammond Lead. Amistadi explained the current lead market and lead futures to the assembled members.

As part of this membership initiative, Hawk has also spoken before the EUROBAT Conference in June and attended the ELEBC conference in Athens, Greece. Additional contacts with similar organizations are also under development.

The Battery Council International (BCI) is a worldwide trade association representing the leading manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, marketers and service providers in the battery industry.

The Energy Battery Group was formed in Dec of 1996 to provide battery distributors and manufacturers a forum for discussion and group buying of battery products and services.
