Enea Announces Middleware Support for SA Forum Compliant MicroTCA Hardware

Company to Showcase Support at the Third Annual AdvancedTCA Summit, Representing the First Working Demonstration of its Kind

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 16 -- ATCA Summit -- Enea (Nordic Exchange/Small Cap/ENEA), a world-leading provider of network software and services, today announced that its carrier-grade, high availability middleware platform, Element(TM) now supports Emerson Network Power's MicroTCA Development System. Enea will be demonstrating this solution at the AdvancedTCA Summit to be held October 16 - 18, 2007 in Santa Clara, California as a compelling example of a working combination of MicroTCA hardware, carrier-grade operating system and Linux-supported, high availability management middleware.

The demonstration will feature the Enea Element middleware running on Emerson Network Power's MicroTCA Development System, and will showcase capabilities such as system management, system controller failover and essential blade management within the chassis.

"There is tremendous excitement and buzz around MicroTCA, and while this technology is still in its infancy the hardware is undoubtedly attractive and the market seems poised to ramp quickly," said Linda Thompson, Vice President, Corporate Alliances at Enea. "The Element middleware ran virtually out of the box on the Emerson system. The availability of pre-integrated COTS middleware for this MicroTCA platform will undoubtedly enable customers to dramatically accelerate their products to market."

Emerson Network Power's MicroTCA EMC-Series platforms feature a high-speed switched fabric, innovative airflow design that enhances cooling and reliability, and independent control and data plane operation. The series is equipped with a MicroTCA Carrier Hub (MCH), power supply module and Pentium-based application/protocol processing. The Enea Element high availability middleware provides a scalable "off-the-shelf" solution which dramatically improves development productivity, thereby reducing time-to-market and minimizing project risk. The platform delivers software management of application executables, image verification and synchronization, cluster boot, image distribution and support for node-level upgrades. Aligned with the SA Forum's Availability Management Framework (AMF), Element also delivers support for heterogeneous, mixed-endian processing environments.

"It is exciting to be at the forefront of developments in MicroTCA, and the inevitable next piece of the puzzle is the availability of software solutions that support the MicroTCA architecture," said Rod Anliker, Senior Program Manager at Emerson Network Power. "Enea's carrier-grade high availability management middleware runs seamlessly on the Emerson MicroTCA hardware. The combination represents a powerful value proposition and is a signal to the market that a full carrier-grade base platform for MicroTCA is ready for adoption."
