Emerson Highlights New Total Chlorine Analysis System and Industry's Most Complete Line of Water And Wastewater Analytical Solutions At WEFTEC 2005

IRVINE, Calif., October 31, 2005 - At WEFTEC 2005, Emerson Process Management will demonstrate its new Model TCL total chlorine analysis system and its complete line of Rosemount Analytical analyzers, transmitters and sensors designed for liquid analysis in water and wastewater applications. Emerson will exhibit at booth number 5510 of WEFTEC, which is being held at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, October 29-November 2, 2005.

Rosemount Analytical instrumentation is a core part of Emerson's broad portfolio of integrated instrumentation and control solutions to help municipalities navigate today's complex water environment. The intelligent and robust instrumentation powers Emerson's PlantWeb(R) digital plant architecture to deliver improved plant performance and reduced life cycle operating costs. The intelligent measurement and analysis devices are networked by PlantWeb to leverage the proven industry strength of Emerson's Ovation(R) expert control system and AMS(TM) Suite of predictive maintenance software applications.

The new Model TCL total chlorine measurement system significantly reduces maintenance and operating costs over previous generation total chlorine systems by reducing the frequency of reagent replacement by as much as eight times and by using readily available, low-cost reagents. The Model TCL includes a sample conditioning system, an analyzer and a sensor.

In addition to chlorine applications, Emerson offers analytical instrumentation for the measurement of dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity and conductivity. Dissolved oxygen is a particularly important measurement for wastewater plants, and in the dirty environment of aeration basins, it is very common for dissolved oxygen sensors to become coated or fouled, and as a result, become inaccurate. Ongoing cleaning is required; this is a messy and time-consuming task for already busy plant operators, so self-cleaning dissolved oxygen systems offer significant time and cost reductions.

"All Emerson analytical instrumentation is designed for reduced maintenance and cost of ownership, as well as for improved reliability and accuracy," said John Wright, vice president of marketing for the Rosemount Analytical, Liquid Division of Emerson Process Management,. "The new Model TCL total chlorine system and the complete line of self-cleaning dissolved oxygen solutions are great examples of how this focus has benefited plants and allowed Emerson to lead the industry."

Emerson's self-cleaning dissolved oxygen measurement solutions for water plants are the Model 499A DO, a membrane sensor and analyzer, and the Zullig open-electrode analysis solution. The Rosemount Analytical Model 499A DO dissolved oxygen sensor with air-blast cleaning system is a cost-effective membrane system that incorporates a 30-second jet blast of air to automatically clean the sensor on a set schedule every eight hours. Field tests have demonstrated that the air-blast system kept the sensor functioning for over three months without cleaning, while standard sensors failed after only two weeks. The Zullig open-electrode system offers the longest life and the lowest maintenance requirements of any DO system, and is ideally suited for low-flow, zero-flow, or greasy environments. The system includes a rotating diamond grindstone that continuously cleans the electrode surface, ensuring reliably accurate measurement, while reducing operating costs.

In addition to these self-cleaning dissolved oxygen systems for wastewater, Emerson will also feature solutions particularly important for drinking water plants -- the WQS water quality system for securing water safety, and the Clarity II turbidimeter. The WQS is a flexible, customizable, and easy to install and use system that enables plants to monitor the distribution system to ensure water safety and quality. Unlike purely laboratory-oriented systems that require substantial amounts of integration by plant staff, Emerson's Water Quality System comes as a complete "plug and plumb" panel system designed to withstand the rigors of a real-world distribution environment, and includes analysis of turbidity, conductivity, pH, ORP, free chlorine, monochloramine, ammonium, dissolved oxygen, ozone, temperature, and particle counting. The Rosemount Analytical Clarity II turbidimeter from Emerson is offered as either single- or dual-channel and enables drinking water plants to continuously monitor turbidity levels on-line for water quality assurance, while meeting even the most stringent EPA requirements, as well as international ISO standards.

Following are additional products that will be featured at the booth from Emerson's full line of water and wastewater solutions. All of these sensors, analyzers, and transmitters are currently available for order.
