Emerson Enhances Model 700 Gas Chromatograph

SOLON, OHIO (October 28, 2005) - Emerson Process Management has announced new enhancements to the Rosemount Analytical Model 700 to expand the application capability of this rugged, field-mountable process gas chromatograph (GC). The new enhancements include:
o Micro-Flame Ionization Detector (micro-FID)
o Detector pre-amplifier/electrometer
o Micropacked Methanator
o Heated liquid sample injection valve
o Heated sample transfer tubing
oFlame Photometric Detector module (FPD)

The micro-flame ionization detector with its new detector pre-amplifier/electrometer board permits measurement of trace hydrocarbons in a variety of samples at parts-per-billion (ppb) concentrations. The micro-FID is unique in the industry because of its small size (less than 3" high) that fits inside the explosion-proof housing of the Model 700. Typical applications include measuring trace impurities in gases and light hydrocarbons, as well as ambient air monitoring.

The micropacked methanator permits measurement of trace carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) in ethylene, propylene and other polymer-grade chemicals by converting CO and CO2 to methane, which can then be measured at ppb levels using the micro-FID.

The heated liquid sample inject valve expands the analyzer's capability to measure liquid hydrocarbon samples, especially sample streams prone to polymerization such as styrene, dicyclopentadiene and 1,3-butadiene.

The heated sample transfer tubing is used with the heated liquid sample inject valve to transport sample from the injection valve to the column oven. The heated sample transfer tubing is also used for vapor samples that require heat to prevent condensation of water or hydrocarbons.

The Flame Photometric Detector (FPD) module expands the application capability of the Rosemount Model 700 Process Gas Chromatograph to trace sulfur compounds with sensitivities typically better than 50 ppb. The free-standing FPD module can also be connected to the Rosemount Analytical Model 500 Process Gas Chromatograph.

The Rosemount Analytical Model 700 Process Gas Chromatograph, with its airless heat sink oven, is designed to be an alternative to traditional process gas chromatographs that must be protected from the weather in temperature-controlled shelters. The Model 700 is field-mountable near the sample point, minimizing cost-of-ownership expenses such as insulated shelters, air conditioning, heating and long heated sample lines. To ensure the reliability of the analyzer and application in the field, the measurement repeatability of every Model 700 is tested in an environmental chamber from 0oF to 130oF (-18o to +55oC). Applications employing the new process enhancements are built and tested to the same rigorous standards.

These new enhancements to the Rosemount Analytical Model 700 Process Gas Chromatograph are part of Emerson's continuing product development and support effort. The company is the world's leading manufacturer of on-line gas chromatographs; the legendary reliability of Rosemount Analytical gas chromatographs sets the standard of performance in the industry.
