ANSI HSSP to Hold Workshops on Emergency Preparedness for Persons with Disabilities
The American National Standards Institute Homeland Security Standards Panel (ANSI-HSSP) has announced three upcoming workshops that will cover emergency preparedness for persons with disabilities and special needs. These events will provide a follow-up to last year's workshop on this topic.
In February 2009 the Panel, in collaboration with the National Organization on Disability (NOD) Emergency Preparedness Initiative (EPI) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Disability Access Review and Advisory Committee (DARAC), held a workshop to examine existing and/or needed standards for emergency preparedness for persons with disabilities and special needs, both in the built environment and for evacuation operations. The final workshop report is now available for review.
The ANSI-HSSP will now launch a Phase II series of three separate issue-driven workshops related this topic. These workshops aim to provide actionable recommendations for the timely development of standards, specifically related to the built environment, products and assistive devices, and emergency evacuation operations.
