EMC Unveils Next Generation Backup and Recovery Capabilities at EMC World

EMC Expands Industry's Broadest Data Protection Portfolio with Largest and Fastest Open Disk Library, De-Duplication Software for Virtual Machines and Bare Metal Recovery Software
ORLANDO, Fla., May 21 -- EMC WORLD -- EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today further extended the broadest portfolio of backup and recovery technology in the industry with the announcement of the world's largest single system virtual tape library (VTL), the latest versions of its industry-leading data de-duplication, replication and backup software, and new bare metal recovery capabilities.
Helping customer's to build tomorrow's information infrastructure, EMC today announced:
o The industry's largest and fastest open systems virtual tape library.
The EMC® Disk Library (DL) 6000 series can store up to 1.8 petabytes
of information in a single appliance and can backup more than 11
terabytes of data per hour. Based on the EMC® Symmetrix® DMX-3
storage platform, the new EMC DL6000 models provide the highest levels
of scalability, performance and software capabilities in the industry.
The EMC Disk Library family is the leading open systems virtual tape
solution in the industry.
o The latest version of EMC Avamar® data de-duplication software
featuring integration with VMware® technology. Avamar software
version 3.7 now supports VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB) software,
reducing backup times of virtual machines by up to 90%. Additionally,
Avamar software now includes expanded file server support, enabling
faster backups of EMC Celerra® network-attached storage (NAS)
systems.
o EMC HomeBase(TM), new software that provides bare metal recovery of
servers. HomeBase software simplifies server management through highly
automated recovery of server capabilities in the event of a hardware
failure or disaster. This new software provides greater protection
using a unique feature that captures a server's status more frequently
to provide faster recoveries. HomeBase is complementary to Avamar,
VMware and EMC NetWorker® backup and recovery software.
o New features of EMC NetWorker software, including new ease-of-use
features and support of additional languages, improving management
capabilities for multi-national customers.
o A new version of the award-winning EMC RecoverPoint(TM) software for
Continuous Remote Replication (CRR) and local Continuous Data
Protection (CDP). The latest version of RecoverPoint software includes
support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), which improves
automation and management of backups and restores for applications like
Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft SQL Server. In addition, EMC
has integrated RecoverPoint and EMC Replication Manager software to
centralize management of RecoverPoint local CDP protection in a
Microsoft Windows environment.

Availability
The EMC DL6000 series will be available beginning in June 2007 from EMC. EMC Avamar software version 3.7 will be available in June 2007 from EMC and its authorized resellers. EMC RecoverPoint software is scheduled to be available on May 30, 2007 from EMC and its authorized resellers. EMC HomeBase software is available immediately from EMC.
