Electronic IEEE Copyright Form Now Available in Japanese, Chinese and Russian

23 March -The IEEE Intellectual Property Rights Office has announced that the IEEE Copyright Form (eCF) can now be read in Japanese, Chinese and Russian, bringing the total number of languages to seven. The new versions of the eCF enable more authors who use English as a second language to better understand copyright transfer and their rights and privileges as IEEE authors.

The eCF enhancements will allow authors to select Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese or Russian versions of the eCF "Wizard," which guides them through completion of the appropriate form. After responding to the Wizard in the selected language, the author will be brought to a copy of the IEEE Copyright Form for he/she to review in the corresponding language. The actual copyright form, as completed and signed by the author, will continue to be an English-language, legal document.

The eCF was introduced to authors and volunteers in 2005. Since its inception, the eCF has effectively accomplished the goal of digitally transferring ownership rights of the intellectual property to IEEE, and also has saved significant amounts of time and effort on the part of IEEE authors, volunteers and staff. More than 37,000 copyright transfer forms were signed and submitted through the online tool in 2006.

The eCF is available for all IEEE-copyrighted periodicals and conferences. Editors and conference organizers who wish to make the eCF available to their authors may register through a convenient, web-based form.
