Ecosphere Enables FEMA to Drink from the Potomac River in Clean Water Technology Demo

Mobile Water Purification System Provides Clean Water for Disaster Response

STUART, Fla., March 21 - Ecosphere Technologies, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: ESPH), a provider of clean air and water technology solutions that solve business and environmental challenges, today announced the first official demonstration of its Mobile Water Purification System (MWPS) to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). During a March 2, 2007 demonstration, the MWPS was employed on the banks of the Potomac River to convert river water directly into clean drinking water for decision-makers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), an agency of the Department of Homeland Security.

In the wake of devastating natural disasters, severe weather and other emergency situations, clean water often quickly becomes a precious limited resource. Designed to meet the most demanding water challenges faced by emergency response teams, Ecosphere's MWPS provides up to 72,000 gallons of clean water per day for cooking, cleaning, bathing and drinking. Capable of treating virtually any water source, the powerful filtration system employs a multi-stage process capable of removing all traces of animal and human byproducts, industrial toxins, biological pathogens, salt and other pollutants. Readily deployed to disaster areas, the MWPS features Ecosphere's robust Ecos Water Filtration technology installed on an Oshkosh® Highland® chassis by Pierce Manufacturing Inc. a leading manufacturer of specialty trucks for the defense and emergency response industries, and an Oshkosh Truck Corporation company. Built-in monitoring systems and satellite capabilities further enable successful disaster response in remote locations by delivering real-time information about the quality of the water flowing both in and out of the MWPS.

"This demonstration at the Potomac was the latest test of a technology that has performed under the most demanding real-world disaster situations. In the days and weeks following Hurricane Katrina, Ecosphere's filtration technology provided safe water to thousands of people in Waveland, Mississippi," said Joe Allbaugh, Former FEMA Director and President of Ecosphere Systems. "The fact that FEMA and others are seriously assessing how Ecosphere's technology can help meet this nation's critical disaster response needs marks an important milestone for Ecosphere and indeed our country."

"The water filtration unit is an impressive collaboration between an innovative clean technology provider in Ecosphere, and Pierce's own expertise in military-grade emergency response vehicle manufacturing. The result of the joint effort is a capable system that can provide critical disaster response capabilities when it's needed most," said Bill Hershman, Director of Government & Homeland Security Business Development of Oshkosh Truck Corporation.
