Dr. Mark Robin Is Named Chairman of ASTM Committee on Halogenated Organic Solvents and Fire Extinguishing Agents



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -ASTM International Committee D26 on Halogenated Organic Solvents and Fire Extinguishing Agents has elected Mark L. Robin, Ph.D., senior technical services consultant at DuPont Fluorochemicals in Wilmington, Del., as its new chairman. Committee D26 oversees 58 technical standards important to the promotion of knowledge pertaining to virgin and reclaimed halogenated organic solvents and fire extinguishing agents

A member of ASTM International since 1996, Robin also chairs Subcommittee D26.09 on Fire Extinguishing Agents.

Robin has more than 25 years of experience in the area of fluorine chemistry, including research in the areas of refrigerants, foam blowing agents and fire suppression agents, and more than 20 years of experience in the fire suppression industry. He has been extensively involved in the development of halon alternatives, and he received the 2005 U.S. EPA Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award for his efforts in the development of halon replacements and international standards regulating their use. He has been with DuPont Fluorochemicals since 2006.

A graduate of Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich., where he received a B.S. in chemistry, Robin earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tenn. His work in the area of fluorine chemistry has been described in 24 U.S. patents, more than 100 international patents, 75 technical publications and numerous scientific presentations.

Outside ASTM International, Robin is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, the Fire Suppression Systems Association, the International Organization for Standardization and the National Fire Protection Association.
