Dr. Don J. Wood Honored with MWH Soft 2005 Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award

Broomfield, Colorado USA, November 2, 2005 - MWH Soft, a leading global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, today announced that Dr. Don J. Wood, Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky and Director of its Civil Engineering Software Center, was recognized with the MWH Soft 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award. Wood was selected in recognition of his eminent lifelong contribution to the water distribution engineering discipline through world-class teaching, practice, and research.

The highly coveted award is presented to outstanding engineers and scientists who have exhibited strong technical leadership and significantly advanced the water resources and environmental engineering profession. More importantly, their distinguished achievements have contributed to the protection of public health and the environment, elevating the quality of life for people everywhere.

Dr. Wood has made notable contributions to the field of hydraulic engineering and was a pioneer in water distribution systems modeling. He conceived a unique Lagrangian approach that revolutionized hydraulic transient analysis of large and complex water distribution systems as well as the Linear Theory (Flow Adjustment) Method of reliably and accurately solving steady-state pressures and flows in piping systems. In 1985, Wood founded the Civil Engineering Software Center at the University of Kentucky, which has maintained a dominant position in the waterworks industry through its strong record of innovation, value and quality. During his long and extraordinary professional career he has received many prestigious honors, including the ASCE 2004 Simon Freeze Award.

"Over the span of nearly half a century, Dr. Don J. Wood has made extraordinary and innovative contributions to hydraulic engineering, and his notable research has led to fundamental advances that have shaped the current practice on water distribution systems analysis," said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, President and COO of MWH Soft. "Dr. Wood has been an award-winning educator and a sought-after consultant to industry and government leaders worldwide. Every day, his massive achievements and unshakable dedication to the development of excellence in the water industry are making life better for families, communities, and society. His tireless energy and boundless sense of possibility represent the best in both the academic study and the practice of hydraulic engineering. Dr. Wood's creativity, vision and leadership are an inspiration to all civil and environmental engineers, and the embodiment of the purpose of this award."

"I am deeply honored to be recognized with the prestigious MWH Soft Lifetime Achievement Award," said Wood. "I want to take this opportunity to pay my modest tribute to the noble engineering community for a lifelong learning journey that has allowed me to work with enormously talented professionals in the rapidly emerging and vital field of water distribution modeling technology. It is particularly gratifying to know that my efforts continue to play a preeminent role in assisting water utilities worldwide to provide the safe and adequate water supply that is so pivotal to our quality of life."
