Discover the Power of Data-Driven Manufacturing at Mazak Midwest Event

FLORENCE, Ky. — Mazak will host its annual Discover More With Mazak™ Event at its Midwest Technology Center in Schaumburg, Illinois, April 19 – 21 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (CST). The technology and education event will explore how today's advanced metalworking technologies and data-driven production strategies contribute to unprecedented productivity gains and improved quality management.

From models with simple, but innovative milling and turning capabilities to advanced manufacturing cell solutions, Mazak will run real-world part cutting demonstrations on 25 of its newest machine tools, many of which will feature the latest ancillary equipment from its Value Inspired Partners.

Mazak application engineers will also be available during the demonstrations to discuss how these machines can solve unique production challenges. Attendees are encouraged to bring their toughest projects to the event so the Mazak team can help them develop highly optimized machining strategies.

Several of the multi-axis machines on display will feature the company's new SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY process-performance platform, which comprises intuitive hardware, new high-speed servo systems, enhanced ergonomics and optimized programming via the latest MAZATROL SmoothX and SmoothG CNCs.

The SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY platform also factors in automation and plant-wide connectivity as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) continues to transform the manufacturing industry through big data. The platform supports the MTConnect® open communications protocol and includes an NC Data Library for connecting machines to an Ethernet system. Machines with SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY and an MTConnect adapter make it easy for shops to collect data from the MAZATROL Smooth CNCs.

Among the simple, but innovative machines on display at the event will be the full 5-axis VCU-500A/5X vertical machining center, which now features SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY and the new MAZATROL SmoothX CNC; the QUICK TURN UNIVERSAL (QTU) 250MSY turning center with Multi-Tasking functionality and a GR100 gantry loader; and the small-footprint QUICK TURN PRIMOS 100 S turning center. Attendees will see how Mazak’s design and engineering teams applied amazing ingenuity to develop innovative features and functions that allow these models to redefine the quality and productivity standards of value-based machine tools.

Representing advancements in unattended, continuous parts processing, the MULTIPLEX 6200-II Y Multi-Tasking turning center will be featured alongside the GL100F gantry loader during the event. Featuring dual spindles, dual turrets, off-center machining and rotary tool capability, the MULTIPLEX 6200-II Y is ideal for single-setup, mid-size lot production and provides a standard machining diameter of 10.24".

Denoting high-volume production, the HCN 5000-III horizontal machining center will show event attendees the precision, reliability and value it brings to heavy, large parts production. Now available with SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY, the machine features the latest MAZATROL SmoothG CNC with advanced programming and support functions. At the event, Mazak will pair the machine with its PALLETECH pre-engineered manufacturing system as part of an advanced manufacturing cell.

In fact, Mazak recently made PALLETECH a key automation component of the SMOOTH TECHNOLOGY platform via its new Smooth PMC software. The schedule operation software predicts the necessary tools and output per a shop's production schedule. A variety of graphs within the software also allows for utilization analysis. In addition to introducing attendees to the latest in advanced machine tool technology, Mazak will use the event as a springboard for Midwest-based manufacturers interested in data-driven manufacturing strategies.

According to Kevin Bates, general manager at Mazak's Midwest Technology Center, the Midwestern states tend to lead the nation in manufacturing. However, to keep the momentum going, manufacturers need to be ready to embrace Industry 4.0 concepts and technologies.

Using its iSMART Factory as an example, Mazak will discuss the unprecedented productivity and quality advantages of intelligence-based business models built around embedded connectivity, big data, advanced analytics and cybersecurity protection.
