December ANSI Caucus to Feature Jordan Barab of OSHA


The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced that the next monthly ANSI Caucus Luncheon will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009. The meeting will feature guest speaker Jordan Barab, of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA).

Mr. Barab was named OSHA's deputy assistant secretary of labor for occupational safety and health, as well as acting assistant secretary, in April 2009. Previously, he was the senior labor policy advisor for health and safety for the House Education and Labor Committee from 2007 to 2009. Mr. Barab worked on workplace safety issues for the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board from 2002 to 2007, and he was a health and safety specialist for the AFL-CIO from 2001 to 2002.

Prior, Mr. Barab served as the special assistant to the assistant secretary of labor for OSHA from 1998 to 2001, where he helped the Agency to promulgate the ergonomics workplace safety and health standard that was repealed by Congress in March 2001. He also directed the safety and health program for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees from 1982 to 1998. Additionally, Mr. Barab created and wrote the award-winning weblog Confined Space from 2003 to 2007.

Mr. Barab holds a master's degree from The Johns Hopkins University and an undergraduate degree from Claremont McKenna College.

The December Caucus is sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an ANSI member and audited designator.

The Caucus will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the National Press Club (529 14th Street, NW, 13th Floor, Lisagor Room) in Washington, DC. 11:45 to 12:15 will be for ANSI members only; after 12:15, all stakeholders are welcome. RSVPs are requested by November 30, 2009.
