DE-STA-CO to Demonstrate Innovative CRL Waste Handling Products at WM Symposia

Attendees can try glovebox systems, telemanipulator and RTP

Red  Wing,  Minn.  –  Nuclear  waste  professionals can  try  out  and  provide  feedback  on  some  of  the  latest  Central Research  Laboratories  (CRL)  remote  handling  products  from  DESTA-CO  at  the  upcoming  WM  Symposia  WM2015  Conference  at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix. DE -STA-CO will be in booth  #223  on  the  event's  trade  show  floor,  which  is  open  March 15-18.

"DE-STA-CO specializes in offering custom automation and containment solutions, since not everyone has the same needs," says Steve Chunglo, global business development manager, life sciences and nuclear for DE-STA-CO. "That's why we value tradeshow feedback. At WM2015, we invite attendees to visit the booth, let us know how they work in the field, try our new CRL products and work with us to build the right tools for their facilities."

The DE-STA-CO booth at WM2015 will include a glovebox/hot cell equipped with CRL Push-Through Gloveports and a CRL Waste Drum Transfer System, as well as two CRL products introduced last year: the G-LDR telemanipulator and CleanRTP rapid transfer port. Each is engineered to maximize precision, ease-of-use and flexibility. Clamping and automation products from DE-STA-CO will also be on display for project discussions.

The CRL Push-Through Gloveport system for gloveboxes and isolators allows for rapid glove changes and minimized risk of operator or material exposure. Viewing windows, bag-outs and plugs can be interchanged without losing containment. At WM2015, the Push-Through Gloveport system will be mounted to a glovebox that is fitted with a CRL Waste Drum Transfer System (WDTS), which eliminates unnecessary contamination risks associated with traditional single-use plastic bag disposal. A fully automated internal port door opens to a waste drum that can be resealed and reopened until it is full. For added safety, the port door self-centers and locks itself and only opens if the waste drum is in place.

Providing all the benefits of the proven CRL G-LD line of telemanipulators in a smaller package, the new G-LDR telemanipulator is designed for compact nuclear hot cells where small mount openings are required. It features 10 lbs. of capacity, telescoping operation and can be retrofitted to any existing mount with a 4.76-inch (121 mm) diameter opening. The G-LDR telemanipulator's arm does not require any internal space above the mount opening, enabling users to reduce the internal height of the hot cell. This can help facilities reduce costs or create useable space for other equipment.

The new CRL CleanRTP rapid transfer port is easier to operate and clean than other rapid transfer ports, and can be customized with a best-in-class range of options. Its streamlined interlock system releases the port door as soon as the beta is docked, which allows users to transfer materials into and out of isolators and gloveboxes with minimal user interaction. To reduce areas where contaminants could hide, there are no exposed fasteners on the CleanRTP.

WM2015 attendees can also learn about DE-STA-CO’s increased European service and support for all CRL lines of telemanipulation products, along with rapid transfer systems, Push-Through Gloveports and Waste Drum Transfer Systems. Due to increased demand for these premium products in Europe, DE-STA-CO will dedicate highly trained CRL technical and  sales support engineers to better serve European customers. DE-STA-CO Europe and its distribution network will provide the full CRL product line directly to its OEM partners and end-users in the nuclear and life sciences industries.

About Central Research Laboratories

In 1945, at the dawn of the Atomic Age, three MIT scientists founded Central Research Laboratories (CRL) and pioneered the early development of safer methods for handling hazardous and toxic products. Today, quality, innovation and service have made CRL a leader in the design and manufacture of manipulation, remote handling, and transfer equipment that allows human operators to safely perform dexterous maneuvers and product transfers in hazardous or sterile environments. CRL products are used around the world in nuclear, pharmaceutical, and biocontainment applications. Based in Red Wing, Minn., CRL is part of DE-STA-CO.
