DATAMARK Inc. Visits Trinidad & Tobago in Outreach Trip

Drawing on a partnership between the DATAMARK Gives Back program and Youth with a Mission, DATAMARK volunteers raised thousands for Bible donations and personally delivered them to youths in Trinidad and Tobago.

EL PASO, TEXAS (PRWEB) JUNE 16, 2019 -- Volunteers from DATAMARK, a leading Business Process Outsourcing company, recently participated in a large-scale donation drive and outreach trip. As part of the company’s 20-year commitment to volunteerism, the employee-driven fundraiser made the purchase of hundreds of Bibles possible and was capped off with a trip to Trinidad and Tobago, in which volunteers personally distributed them. The fundraiser and outreach trip were planned in conjunction with Youth with a Mission (YWAM), an international interdenominational organization dedicated to sharing Christian values and teachings throughout the world. While employees at various DATAMARK sites around the country spearheaded their own fundraising campaigns, YWAM coordinated the distribution trip and helped the team identify which children could be served best by their efforts.

Over the span of just a few months near the end of 2018, DATAMARK employees raised thousands of dollars to purchase hundreds of Bibles for the youths. Then, in February, six DATAMARK volunteers met up with YWAM representatives in Trinidad and Tobago. While there, the group visited five schools with children between the ages of 7 and 13 and distributed more than 500 Bibles. Additional mission work, such as painting a portion of the YWAM campus building and engaging with the youth, also took place.

“Some of the schools were in pretty rough neighborhoods,” says Chelsea Hill, a DATAMARK employee who volunteered to go on the outreach trip. “A lot of the children came from broken homes.” Despite the circumstances, she notes that the kids were wonderful to work with and were highly engaged during the visits. “It was really impactful for them,” she adds. “The kids would sometimes break down and cry and thank the volunteers for taking the time to talk to them.”

Hill describes her time in the Caribbean as a “once in a lifetime experience,” but contends the giving spirit is continuous at DATAMARK. Because of the DATAMARK Gives Back program, employees are offered 40 paid hours per year to apply to community service projects of their choosing. Though the team lets employees know which projects are going on, employees at each site take it from there, often engaging in friendly competitions to see which location can generate the biggest results.

“The whole experience was very humbling,” says Hill. “It’s nice to see all the hard fundraising work come to fruition and know how it contributed to the overall goal. It’s another thing to be there and experience what you’ve fundraised for.”
