Corning Cable Systems Unveils New FlexNAP(TM) System Tools

HICKORY, N.C. - Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, has released two new tools to simplify the process of deploying fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) networks. The FlexNAP(TM) System Installation Video and FlexNAP System Design Guide are available to customers and will be featured in Corning's booth (#103) at the 2006 FTTH Conference, Oct. 2-5 in Las Vegas.
Corning Cable Systems' OptiSheath(TM) Premier FlexNAP Terminal Distribution System consists of standard fiber optic cables upon which network access points are pre-terminated at customer-specified locations along the length of the cable. The FlexNAP System is manufactured and tested in the factory, then packaged and shipped to the customer for immediate deployment. The FlexNAP System reduces the cost of deploying optical access networks by up to 50 percent.
To date, Corning Cable Systems has shipped more than 9,000 FlexNAP Terminal Distribution Systems, passing more than 250,000 homes in 15 U.S. states, Canada and Australia.
To demonstrate the ease of deploying FTTx networks with the FlexNAP System, Corning is featuring the new tools in its exhibit at the 2006 FTTH Conference. The FlexNAP System Design Guide provides a detailed description of the components of the system, along with design recommendations and sample bills of materials. The FlexNAP System Installation Video is an interactive tool that guides customers step-by-step through the installation process. Corning's exhibit will also contain a model deployment allowing customers to see exactly where the various FlexNAP System components fit into their network.
Corning Cable Systems FlexNAP System allows for efficient workforce management, with the option of deploying more highly skilled workers to other areas of the network.
At the same time, the risk of reworks and failures is reduced due to each cable in the FlexNAP System being 100 percent factory tested before shipping to the customer.
