Cooper Lighting Named Industry Partner with Clinton Climate Initiative
Peachtree City, Ga., November 2, 2007 - Cooper Lighting has been named an Industry Partner of the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI). CCI is a project of the Clinton Foundation dedicated to reducing greenhouse gases in practical and measurable ways. CCI recently launched a building retrofit program aimed at significantly reducing energy use in buildings, which is responsible for up to 70 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in some cities.
"Cooper Lighting is honored to be an expert partner for the Clinton Climate Initiative and working with the C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group," said Cooper Lighting President Neil Schrimsher. "Lighting upgrades represent one of the most effective ways for cities and businesses to reduce energy use and lower greenhouse gas emissions."
The CCI is currently working with the C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40), an association of large U.S. and international cities that have pledged to accelerate their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and serve as models for other cities. These partnering cities, working with energy service companies (ESCOs), have agreed to scale up their capacity to do large numbers of building retrofits across C40 partner cities that are participating in the program.
"Cooper Lighting has played a leadership role in developing energy efficient lighting products that help organizations implement total lighting solutions, and we are committed to being a strong ally to the partner cities and organizations," said Schrimsher.
"Climate change is a global issue that we must address immediately if we are to reverse its catastrophic effects," said Former President Bill Clinton. "I am pleased that the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Wal-Mart and many businesses are working with my foundation to supply energy efficient and clean energy products. By offering these products at a discounted rate, we can ensure that more cities and citizens have access to them and that the market for clean energy technology will grow. Together, I hope that we can have a measurable impact on greenhouse gas emissions around the world."
