Continental Products Wins Award for Presenting Innovative Liquid Addition Capabilities in Batch Mixer

Continental Products Corp. was the recipient of the 2005 Neil Rice Award for the paper and presentation on "Exploring the Versatility of Free-Fall Processing". Continental Products Corp. was invited to the 2005 International Briquetting and Agglomeration Conference held in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Continental demonstrated the Rollo-Mixer ® at the vendor's night reception on the beach. www.continentalrollomixer.com/videos/demo-florida.php

Established in 1979 honoring Neal Rice, a founder of the IBA and its Secretary-Treasurer from 1949 to 1977, this award is given to the author of the paper judged to have the most excellent technical content and presentation at each biennial conference.

Bill Callaghan gave the award winning presentation on Continentals "Free-Fall Processing®", the unique method of applying liquids to solids; which allows for uniform distribution of liquid additives onto dry particulates, as the particle surface area is exposed in Free-Fall. The relationship of the droplet size to the particle size is critical in order to create the desired finished product; whether it is De-dusting Carbon Black, Impregnating Agricultural Chemicals, or Encapsulating Enriched Rice. http://continentalrollomixer.com/videos/IBAVideo12_13_05.wmv

Continental Products manufactures the "Rollo-Mixer", a rotary drum batch mixer, which is well known for its uniform blending as well as precision liquid addition capabilities in Free-Fall. The Rollo-Mixer is used in mixing, blending and coating application in a wide variety of industries throughout the world. www.continentalrollomixer.com/industries

The Continental Rollo-Mixer ® is a Rotary Drum Batch Blender that uniformly blends ingredients having a wide variance in particle size, density, and proportions, typically in only 6 to 9 revolutions. Product moves by gravity in all planes. The gentle, low-shear, fast-mixing, positive displacement action creates continuous rivers of material which course into and flow through one another in a random confluence. This Rollo-Mixer achieves uniformity in 2 to 3 minutes; utilizing the least amount of energy per ton in the industry. The Continental rotary drum batch mixer ® is available in 4 designs and over 125 models; ranging from 3.5 to 1600 ft3 capacity. www.continentalrollomixer.com/mixers/models.php

Many industries benefit from the gentle, rapid distributive mixing that is unique with the Rollo-Mixer® solids processors by Continental Products Corp. The Rollo Mixers ability to agglomerate, granulate and encapsulate is novel to the processing industry as well. Continentals "Free-Fall Processing®" method of applying liquids to solids allows for uniform distribution of liquid additives as the surface area is exposed in Free-Fall.

There are several processes which fall under the category of "Free-Fall Processing®". At the conference, Bill went in depth on six different applications: agglomerating, granulating, encapsulating, impregnating, surface coating and de-dusting. The factors that separate these processes into their respective categories are really defined by the physical characteristics of the powder or granular being coated, and the function of the finished product. www.continentalrollomixer.com/liquid

One of the many benefits of the Rollo-Mixer® design is being able to actually watch the coating process take place. Most processing equipment, by its very design, does not allow you to see what's going on inside. During customer tests, we will mount plastic window panels on the stationary front hood and the rotating drum at the rear of the mixer. Besides being able to watch the ingredients go into a mixed state, this also allows us to see the liquid being applied into the falling curtain as well as note the angle of repose of the product as it's flowing in the Rollo-Mixer®. Visibility is a key factor in helping us learn how products behave and adapting our coating technology to suit the application. www.continentalrollomixer.com/liquid/dedusting.php
