Conicity Technologies Offers CBN Tools Brochure Highlighting Its Radial Edge Preparation Advantage

March 9, 2006

Conicity Technologies, the world leader in cutting edge preparation technology, announces the release of a new brochure on its radial edge preparation advantage for cubic boron nitride (CBN) tools. The brochure highlights Conicity's unique Engineered Micro-Geometry(TM) (EMG) process, which provides a superior alternative for removing defects on CBN tool edges.

The brochure discusses the shortcomings of applying a T-Land, which has traditionally been the method used for removing defects found on tool edges after grinding. While applying a T-Land may eliminate the defects, it also creates a negative cutting condition, increasing cutting pressure and decreasing tool performance.

Alternatively, Conicity's EMG radial edge preparation produces lower cutting forces and less corresponding wear, leading to a longer tool life. Diagrams in the brochure further highlight the benefits of Conicity's radial edge preparation process.

The brochure highlights CBN inserts and CBN mini tip inserts available with EMG preparation. PCD-tipped inserts, full-top CBN and PCD tools, and special CBN tool geometries are available on request. The size of the edge preparation applied to these tools can be customized depending on the demands of the application.

A chart of recommended speeds and feeds is provided and broken out by the material being used. CBN application guidelines can also be found in the brochure.
