Con-way Freight Announces Major Expansion for San Antonio

New Freight Operations Center to Double Local Capacity, Expected to Create Over 50 Jobs

SAN ANTONIO - Dec. 13, 2010 - Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) trucking company and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced a major investment for the San Antonio community as it has begun construction of a new, 105-door, 41,500 square foot freight service center.

The new facility, located at 1511 Cornerway Boulevard, will serve as the local hub for daily freight pickup and delivery service, nightly re-ship operations connecting San Antonio with one-, two- and three-day service points in Con-way's nationwide network, and as a gateway for goods moving to and from Mexico.

The new facility will replace an existing 48-door service center at 5685 FM 1346 where Con-way has been for more than 20 years. When the new service center is completed, the company expects to expand its workforce, adding over time more than 50 new jobs in capacities such as driver sales representatives, operations support and customer service. Con-way Freight currently employs 104 at its existing San Antonio facility.

"The city commends Con-way Freight for choosing to expand its operations in San Antonio with a $10 million investment on the East Side that will create 56 new jobs," said San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro. "Con-way Freight has been a great corporate citizen since 1989 and continues to be a key player in the city's targeted logistics and distribution industry."

"Our role in economic development includes business retention and growth, not just attracting new businesses to the region," said Bexar County Judge Nelson W. Wolff. "It's always a good day when we can use our resources to help local businesses expand and add jobs."

Construction has begun on the 30-acre, 41,500 square-foot freight operations and office complex with estimated completion expected during the second half of 2011. The new center initially will open with 105 dock doors but is designed to expand to 160 doors. The company currently handles more than one million pounds of freight per day out of its existing facility. The new site will provide capacity to expand those volumes to well over 1.5 million pounds per day encompassing both daytime and night operations. The expanded location will also house a five-bay maintenance facility and will have its own fueling facility and diesel fuel storage on site.

Today, Con-way Freight operates a fleet of 45 commercial truck-tractors and 156 freight trailers in San Antonio. The company dispatches over 40 professional driver-sales representatives each day providing freight pickup and delivery services for more than 1,500 local San Antonio businesses. Nationwide, the company operates a fleet of 9,100 truck-tractors and 25,000 freight trailers.

Con-way provides some of the fastest service over the longest market lanes of any trucking company in the state. From San Antonio, next-day delivery is provided for virtually all of Texas, north to Oklahoma and east into Arkansas and Louisiana. Second-day service extends west into New Mexico, Arizona and as far as Southern California, north into Minnesota, and east into Michigan, Ohio, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

Neil Smith, area vice president of operations for Con-way Freight said, "This expanded facility is an important investment for our company, providing expanded capacity in a key location for our network, and giving us flexibility to grow with the San Antonio community. We thank the San Antonio City Council and Bexar County Commissioner's Court for their ongoing support as we deepen our ties with this leading Texas community and participate in its overall economic growth."
