Computrace Data Protection Bundled with HP Notebook PCs Offered to U.S. Federal Market

Three-year subscription to Absolute Software's remote data delete solution a standard feature in notebooks targeted at federal teleworkers

VANCOUVER, Sept. 12 / -- Absolute® Software Corporation "Absolute"), the leading provider of firmware-based, patented Computer Theft Recovery, Data Protection and Secure Asset Tracking(TM) solutions, announced that its Computrace® Data Protection(TM) security solution will be available on three new Hewlett-Packard ("HP") notebook PCs marketed toward teleworkers in the U.S. Federal market. Until October 31, 2007, a three-year subscription for Computrace Data Protection, Absolute's solution to remotely delete data on missing or stolen computers, is included in the purchase price of HP Compaq 6910p, 6710p and 6715p notebook PCs available exclusively for U.S. Federal customers.

"Telework programs provide new challenges for federal agencies that must balance the increased adoption of teleworking with practical data security policies to meet growing regulatory requirements," said John Livingston, Chairman and CEO of Absolute Software. "With Computrace Data Protection as a standard feature on these HP business notebooks, secure teleworking is an achievable reality for these organizations."

According to Telework Exchange's "Remote Control - Federal CISOs Dish on Mobility, Telework, and Data Security" 2007 study, underwritten by HP, 63 percent of Federal Chief Information Security Officers surveyed said securing mobile devices is their top data security priority.

"When telework programs are established with proper security training, support and equipment, teleworkers do not pose a security threat to their federal agencies," said Eric Brennan, director of Solutions Marketing, Personal Systems Group at HP. "By implementing secure telework programs, Federal employees and agencies can focus on and safely benefit from more work/life balance, freedom, and cost-savings from reduced commute times."

Computrace Data Protection allows agencies to track stationary, remote and mobile computer assets and remotely wipe sensitive data if the computer is lost or stolen. It can also be used effectively for lifecycle management to ensure that computers are left clean and free of sensitive data at the end of their life or lease. The product is centrally managed by the IT department, providing visibility for up to 100% of their connected computer assets. Computrace's Data Delete operation uses an algorithm that exceeds the United States Department of Defense (DoD) deletion standard DOD5220.22-M and meets the NATO deletion standard. Embedded in the BIOS firmware of these notebooks and others by HP, Computrace Data Protection can survive operating re-installations, hard-drive reformats, hard drive replacements and hard drive re-imaging, which is critical in order to survive unauthorized removal attempts in case of theft.
