The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Company Member Forum (CMF) monthly online discussion will host a presentation by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Strategic Group (SG) 8, Industry 4.0 Smart Manufacturing, on February 9, 2016, from 2:00 p.m.– 3:00 p.m. EST. IEC SG 8 is seeking U.S. stakeholder feedback on proposed recommendations to form a new IEC systems committee in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1, and other international standards developing organizations (SDOs) addressing smart manufacturing.

IEC SG 8 is tasked with providing recommendations for an IEC strategy addressing manufacturing automation that will aim to ensure real-time needs of the manufacturing enterprise are sustained, in an effort to achieve safe, secure, and energy-efficient factory operations. The group is also pursuing architecture for smart manufacturing that will enable it to function as a smart application with a broad Internet of Things (IoT) environment. It aims to leverage the adoption of current next-generation technologies to achieve safe and secure factory operations.

SG 8 convener Alec McMillan – vice president-technical of the U.S. National Committee (USNC) to the IEC, USNC representative to the IEC Standardization Management Board (SMB), and a member of the ANSI Board of Directors – is the scheduled speaker.

The recommendations received by U.S. stakeholders will be shared with the SG 8 members at their international meeting scheduled for March 1-2, 2016. Only attendees will receive the compiled list of recommendations discussed during this event as well as the full report from the SG 8 March international meeting.
