Cingular Wireless Turns on New Cell Site in Broward County

BOCA RATON, Fla., June 28 / -- Cingular Wireless has expanded coverage in Broward County with the activation of a new cell site in Miramar. The site, located near the Miami-Dade/Broward County line, is providing coverage along Miramar Parkway, Flamingo Road, the Florida Turnpike and in surrounding residential areas.
The new Miramar cell site is one of dozens to be turned on this year in Florida by the nation's largest wireless carrier. The new sites, along with the addition of portable and permanent generators in hurricane-prone areas and the integration of the former AT&T Wireless and Cingular networks, are part of a $370 million network investment statewide. Network integration in West, Central and North Florida was completed in May. The South Florida network integration should be completed by August.
"Quality and coverage are everything in our business," said Rich Guidotti, vice-president and general manager for Cingular's South Florida market. "It's great to see the investments we're making in our network are paying off for our customers."
Cingular also plans to roll out its third-generation (3G) high-speed broadband wireless network this summer. The service provides average mobile data connections between 400-700 kilobits per second on the downlink and bursts to more than a megabit per second.
