Chemineer(TM) Top-Entering Agitators Installed at Severn Trent Water's WWTW in Birmingham, UK

Dayton, Ohio — Chemineer agitators are playing a key role in six newly upgraded Activated Sludge Process (ASP) lanes at Severn Trent Water’s WWTW in Birmingham.

Installed in six phases with no disruption to operations, the 24 Chemineer Model 20 GT agitators are successfully homogenizing fluid streams prior to aeration, as well as ensuring that there is no return flow from the aeration lanes back into the anoxic zones.

Operating 24/7, each Chemineer agitator utilizes a high efficiency HE-3 impeller, rotating at a low rpm. Prior to installation, Chemineer provided Severn Trent Water with its in-house CFD to demonstrate the comprehensive mixing benefits of its impeller design.

Andy Mellor, Site Manager for Costain at Birmingham, commented: "The new Chemineer agitators are proving to be a very reliable and efficient part of our newly enhanced ASP lanes, which now have sufficient space for pre-aerated zones in the process, with liquid depths raised by 300mm."

Irfan Rehman, Sales Manager at Chemineer, added: "The performance, reliability and longevity of our agitators are becoming increasingly attractive to the industry, with Chemineer able to offer guarantees on all espects of our equipment, from the gearbox to the seal, the motor and the impeller."

Chemineer’s Model 20 GT agitators can also be fitted with the RL-3 ragless impeller for this type of installation. The high-efficiency gearbox of the Model 20 and the unique characteristics of the RL-3 impeller work together to eliminate downtime and maintenance costs, increase performance and extend the service life of the agitator.
