CEL Expands Engineering Team through the Acquisition of Eagle Mountain Technology

Acquisition Builds on CEL's Award-Winning MeshWorks™ Software Platform, and Opens up Opportunities within the Internet of Things

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and BOULDER, Colo. – Today California Eastern Laboratories (CEL), a leading provider of IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee professional grade wireless solutions, announced that it has acquired assets from Eagle Mountain Technology, LLC, a Boulder, Colorado based engineering services company focused on the development of embedded devices and protocols for the Internet of Things. All members of Eagle Mountain's technical staff have joined CEL, establishing CEL's new Colorado office located in Boulder. The acquisition expands CEL's footprint to include operations within Silicon Valley, the Silicon Prairie, and now the Silicon Flatirons.

Technology developed by Eagle Mountain has already been incorporated into CEL's award-winning MeshWorks™ and MeshConnect™ product lines. The integration of Eagle Mountain's staff into CEL's engineering team will accelerate the expansion of MeshWorks™ and unlock additional opportunities within the M2M (machine to machine) market. The Eagle Mountain engineering team brings extensive experience in low power wireless technologies, along with a rich portfolio of intellectual property within the IoT space.

"Eagle Mountain Technology has been critical to the development of our MeshWorks™ Platform, and adds a tight knit group of experienced engineers to our already strong engineering team," said Tom Benson, Vice President and General Manager, Embedded Systems, for CEL. "Matt Smith, founder and president of Eagle Mountain Technology, was a key technical contributor at both Tendril and Ember. He and the other engineers on his team have designed and shipped many embedded products over the years."

In addition to accelerating development of the MeshWorks™ and MeshConnect™ product lines, this acquisition strengthens CEL's ability to help customers connect their devices to the Internet of Things. "We have a lot of companies asking for help in this area, and customers demand more than just building blocks and an instruction manual. Because stability, security and time to market are so critical, our customers are looking for robust, easy to implement end-to-end solutions that can be customized to fit their specific needs," said Paul Minton, President and Chief Executive Officer of CEL.

CEL and Eagle Mountain Technology have been collaborating since 2013. "We have developed a lot of momentum over the last year, and after seeing how well our two teams have worked together, this was a logical next step," said Matt Smith, founder of Eagle Mountain Technology. "The two companies really complement each other well and this will let us work even closer together."
