Carrier Continues Commitment to Life-Enhancing Technology Through Sponsorship of 2007 NextGen Home

Consumers to get a first look at Carrier's new line of advanced thermostats

INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 16 -- Carrier Corp. today announced it will sponsor the NextGen Home for the second year in a row, showcasing ground- breaking advancements in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, at the 2007 International Builder's Show (IBS). Carrier, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), will feature in the home its inventive and creatively designed technologies including the new EDGE(TM) thermostat, Infinity(TM) Hybrid Heat(TM) System, Infinity Air Purifier and Automatic Home Standby Power Generator.

IBS, the world's largest builders' show, takes place Feb. 7-10, 2007, in Orlando, Fla.

"The next generation of consumers is increasingly interested in personalizing their home appliances while remaining focused on cost savings and indoor air quality," said Mike Branson, brand manager, Carrier Residential and Light Commercial Systems. "Willis Carrier was a next generation thinker, and 104 years later, we continue our dedication to offering the most advanced products for not only today's consumer but also tomorrow's."

The theme of the 2007 IBS NextGen Home is "First to the Future." "The next generation of consumers seeks ways to balance innovation and personalization for their home decor," said Paul Barnett, project manager, iShow -- producer of the NextGen Home. "Carrier's lifestyle-enhancing products are a perfect match at every level of this project theme."

NextGen homes use current advancements to fill today's homeowner needs. Carrier products address homeowners' most important issues, making them a perfect fit for the 2007 NextGen Home. With Carrier's industry leading products, homeowners can reflect their own personal style, while assured of maximum comfort and cost savings.

The Cutting EDGE of Home Decor and Comfort
Personalization is one of the hottest home product trends today. Launching in late spring 2007, Carrier's EDGE thermostat line will make its first public appearance at this year's IBS. The new line affords consumers the ability to integrate their own personal style into everyday products.

EDGE features interchangeable faceplates to match the homeowner's furnishings, while bringing cutting edge technology to every home with the patented EXP (Edge Xpansion Port) card to program the thermostat from a computer. For homeowners wanting direct control versus programming comfort schedules, the Touch N' Go option offers three simple buttons (Home, Away, Sleep) to achieve the balance between energy and comfort savings. EDGE is the only thermostat on the market to offer all these exclusive features within an attractively designed package.

Heat Up the House, Cool Down the Wallet
Home heating bills remain a primary concern for consumers. Carrier's Infinity Hybrid Heat system is a fuel-saving alternative to traditional heating and cooling systems. It combines an Infinity 96 furnace and Infinity 19 Series electric heat pump, rather than an air conditioner. Unlike traditional dual-fuel systems, the Hybrid Heat system is considered a smart system. Depending on the outdoor temperature, this system is designed to switch automatically from one fuel source to another, maximizing operating efficiency while running at the lowest cost possible. As gas and electricity costs fluctuate over the years, Carrier's Hybrid Heat system offers a futuristic approach to home heating and cooling, allowing homeowners to choose which fuel source to heat with based on current prices.

Americans spend more than 90 percent of their time indoors where pollution levels can reach two to five times -- and occasionally more than 100 times -- higher than outdoor levels. For this reason, indoor air quality remains a top concern for consumers today. Carrier's Infinity Air Purifier provides a solution to increasingly poor indoor air quality. Unlike other products that merely capture particles from the air, its exclusive advanced technology allows it to both capture and kill airborne allergens, bacteria, molds and viruses.

Carrier also will display its Automatic Home Standby Generator and the Carbon Monoxide Alarm in the NextGen Home. The Automatic Home Standby Power Generator offers reliable emergency backup power for homeowners. Within 30 seconds of power loss, natural gas or liquid propane restores power for up to 12 circuits in the home. The Carbon Monoxide Alarm, with a rechargeable lithium ion battery, uses sophisticated electronics and unmatched sensor technology to detect and record the levels of CO circulating in the air. The homeowner is protected during power outages and is never required to change a battery. Carrier is dedicated to providing peace of mind through superior products that lower monthly utility costs, improve indoor air quality and offer intelligence and functionality.
