A Call for Papers is announced by the Italian Trade Commission for the Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards
CHICAGO, Ill. DEARBORN, Mich., - A "Call for Papers" for the 2011 Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards (IMTTA) is announced by the Italian Trade Commission via its Chicago USA Office (ITC - www.italtrade.com/usa), and its partners.
The IMTTA program is comprised of a competition asking upper level students attending premier North American universities to write a thesis on the relative innovation taking place in mechanical engineering related industries and the issues they face. The aim of the program is to enrich the engineering education of students and to advance knowledge on issues of importance within the industry to the next generation of engineering professionals.
Winners of the Fourth Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards (IMTTA), selected as having the best papers, will be awarded a two-week trip to Italy with activities scheduled for July 4-15, 2011. Students will visit top Italian companies in the machine tool industry and take part in an advanced international engineering program from Polytechnic of Milan.
The trip is part of the Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards, which is part of the international program Italian Technology Awards. The IMTTA is sponsored by the Italian Trade Commission, via its Chicago Office, UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE (Association of Italian Manufacturers of Machine Tools, Robots, Automation Systems and Ancillary Products - www.ucimu.it), Polytechnic of Milan (www.polimi.it) and in the United States, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Education Foundation (SME-EF). www.smeef.org
Submission Criteria:
Papers must be relevant to the disciplines surrounding mechanical engineering, be based on actual case histories, and developed according to the following suggested topics:
The Use of Computer Aided Design (CAD), to model and analyze machine components so as to design against fatigue, that is, designing the product or machine to function without failure for its entire expected life;
Mechanical Engineering and their work in manufacturing plants;
Oversight of the daily operations of a manufacturing plant with the emphasis on finding the most efficient way to convert raw materials into consumer goods;
Sustainable manufacturing;
Information and communications technology (ICT), enabled Intelligent Manufacturing;
High performance manufacturing, and
Exploiting new materials through manufacturing.
Faculties may decide to integrate this contest into current academic courses, allowing selected students accreditation for their work.
Paper Requirements:
Submitted papers would ideally be between 10-12 pages in length, typed and double-spaced. However, paper length considerations can be given due to time constraints. Attachments such as footnotes, images, photocopied materials, source citations, statistics, etc., are allowed. Papers should be submitted in electronic format to the SME Education Foundation at foundation@sme.org.
