Bright Plastics to Open 3D Digital Engineering Facility at Its Company Headquarters

Greensboro, NC – March 14, 2019 – Bright Plastics, a Greensboro, NC, custom injection molder of plastic products, has partnered with Carbon, a Silicon Valley-based digital 3D manufacturing company, to be part of a new state-of-the-art engineering facility located at its Gate City Boulevard headquarters.

The new engineering space will open March 15, 2019, and will increase Bright Plastics’ ability to manufacture low-volume, high-quality plastic parts with predictable and consistent mechanical properties, creating at-scale parts that are ready for end use.

Kirk Sparks, President, Bright Plastics, explains, “Carbon’s next-generation technologies will enable us to better serve our customers. As injection molders, we have relied on the traditional molding processes to manufacture polymer parts, which is robust, highly repeatable, and often ideal for high-volume production, but it can be slow and costly for smaller and more customized jobs. With Carbon’s complete digital fabrication solution, we now have an in-house alternative for designing and engineering high-quality custom products ready for end use with a small to medium production run.”

Joe Vest, Vice President, Bright Plastics, states, “This new facility represents a turning point for the plastic injection molding industry. We will be reaching out to our customers to talk to them about re-thinking part design. This is a new frontier in part making that could never have been possible with traditional injection molding.”

Carbon is empowering manufacturers and injection molders with the many benefits of digital fabrication. As part of the Carbon Production Network (CPN), Bright Plastics can leverage a truly scalable, complete digital manufacturing platform that offers a faster process and creates high-quality, end-use parts with similar properties to injection molding and urethane casting.

The CPN is an elite ecosystem of the industry’s leading design firms and contract manufacturers who have implemented Carbon’s technology and demonstrated advanced capabilities in additive manufacturing, design, production, urethane casting, machining and injection molding. The CPN offers a true partnership model that focuses on hands-on advanced training and certification, production engineering, marketing and sales to help ensure its partners’ continued success.
