Brian Hunt, Manager-Business Development at PCC, Along with Two Others, Recently Received US Patent

Brian Hunt, Manager-Business Development at PCC, along with two others, recently received US Patent No. 10,706,973 for the invention of GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy's "Very Simplified Boiling Water Reactors for Commercial Electricity Generation", otherwise known as the BWRX-300. Prior to joining PCC, Brian and his two co-inventors developed this technology as GE-Hitachi's entry into the Small Modular Reactor market (nuclear reactors rated at less than 350 MWe). The design significantly reduces failure possibilities by using natural circulation (i.e., no active pumps) inside the containment to cool the reactor. Their design also enables a smaller footprint and below grade construction that should significantly reduce operating cost. PCC has provided preliminary cost estimates for this reactor and another advanced reactor design to GE-Hitachi in support of their commercial development efforts.
