Bournemouth Student Rewarded for Innovation and Enterprise with DEK Prize

Weymouth-based company DEK, manufacturer of sophisticated production equipment used in the electronic and solar industries, has named local Bournemouth student, Oliver Dinsey, as the recipient of its annual DEK Prize. Established to recognize students from Bournemouth University's School of Design, Engineering & Computing who demonstrate innovation and enterprise, the prestigious accolade was presented as a special prize at the school's graduation ceremony.

The awards ceremony took place at Bournemouth International Centre on Wednesday 3rd November. Martyn Buttle, DEK's Global Product Development & Engineering Director, presented the award to Oliver in recognition of an excellent final year project. The DEK Prize is evidence of the company's strong relationship with Bournemouth University and its commitment to investing in the local community. Over the years, many of Bournemouth's students have benefited from placements at the company either as graduates or as part of their course. Having spent a decade serving on the University Board as deputy Chairman, DEK Chairman John Knowles was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration in 2008 from the university, in recognition of his own success as a prominent businessman and entrepreneur.

Commenting on the 2010 DEK Prize, John explains: "I'm delighted that we have been able to honor another student from this highly successful university. Oliver's project work was of a consistently high quality and he exhibits the innovative and enterprising spirit that we look for when judging the DEK Prize; we were all extremely impressed with his efforts - it's a strong foundation for future success. As a major employer in the Weymouth area, DEK firmly believes in supporting the local community. Bournemouth School of Design Engineering & Computing offers many opportunities for its students so we're very pleased to support it. Congratulations to Oliver and the other students graduating from the university - your hard work has certainly paid off!"
