Bosch Presents Its Innovative Packaging Solutions at PACK EXPO

Chicago - At PACK EXPO 2012 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, Bosch Packaging Technology showcases several new technologies for the pharmaceutical, food and confectionery industries. These build upon its proven portfolio, highlighting flexibility, enhanced hygiene, security and innovation. One of the innovations is the Pack 301 ID inverted long dwell flow wrapper (ID), the newest addition to the company's Pack series of horizontal form fill seal (HFFS) machines. The Pack 301 ID gently transports products by carrying them on top of the film from the former through the cutting head, minimizing jams and protecting package appearance. The machine's long dwell sealing system allows for longer sealing times compared with traditional rotary cutting heads, which results in higher seal integrity and air-tight packages. In addition to fresh produce, multipacks and other soft products, the gentle product handling and secure seal of this new HFFS machine make it ideal for pharmaceutical, meat and dairy applications.
The company is also exhibiting the latest addition to its Pack Feeder 4 family - the Product Stacker Collator (PSC). The machine seamlessly integrates with Bosch's Pack series of horizontal flow wrappers to enable multi-count packaging of either raw or wrapped products. Its design utilizes a variety of carrier heights to lift the products and place them onto a static shelf to create multipacks up to five layers high before the stacks are conveyed to a horizontal flow wrapper for overwrapping.
At PACK EXPO, Bosch Packaging Technology introduces a range of innovations to the North American market: the bar packaging line, the SurePOUCH clean-fill machine (SPC), and the compact inspection unit KKX 3900 for capsules. The bar packaging line consists of the distribution station Sigpack DCI, the horizontal flow wrapper Sigpack HRM with high performance splicer and the new toploader Sigpack TTM. The system was designed with the operator in mind. As the result of decades of experience in packaging technology, the bar packaging line addresses the key requirements of bar producers, from speed and hygiene to ease of operation, flexibility and efficiency.
For the first time in the United States, Bosch also presents its new SurePOUCH roll-fed vertical form fill seal (VFFS) machine SPC, which produces stand-up flexible pack styles with spouts that give manufacturers multiple packaging options for liquid and viscous products. The packs are filled on the SPC, which features a small footprint of six square meters and is capable of hygiene standards up to ultra clean-fill. The SurePOUCH packs are also fitted with reclosable spouts, which are ultrasonically welded to the exterior of the pouch and can be positioned in various locations. Compared to rigid alternatives, SurePOUCH packages are created with thinner gauge and lighter polymer materials, resulting in significant cost, resource and energy savings throughout manufacturing and transportation.
The new inspection unit KKX 3900 for capsules also has its debut in North America. With this, Bosch underlines the substantial expansion of its inspection technology portfolio for the pharmaceutical industry. Based on x-ray technology, the machine serves as a system for comprehensive 100-percent weight and quality control. The small inspection unit is equipped with soft x-ray technology and an associated sensor for image creation. "The KKX 3900 is universally applicable and, apart from filling weight control, provides further advantages. For the first time, an inspection unit is capable of simultaneously checking all quality features like weight, foreign particles, deformation of capsule top and bottom, as well as length," explained Melanie Beck, product manager at Bosch Packaging Technology. With the acquisition of the machinery business of Eisai Co., Ltd., in April 2012, Bosch extended its inspection competencies.
Additionally at PACK EXPO, Bosch presents its expanded after-sales services portfolio. The functions Open Catalog Interface (OCI) and Corporate Portal simplify spare parts logistics by synchronizing the E-Portal, Bosch's online ordering platform, with the customer's internal purchasing system. Both services give customers immediate access to machine-specific spare parts data and the Corporate Portal allows companies to combine and centrally manage E-Portals from different facilities. In addition, Bosch showcases its mobile measuring system that allows manufacturers to obtain a quick overview of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) as a basis for line improvements.
