Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce Congratulates Panel Built

On Tuesday, December 13, the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting at one of Panel Built's newest facilities located at 183 Rock Road in Blairsville. Chamber Ambassadors and other community members such as Union County Commissioner Lamar Paris, Department of Labor representative Janet Chapman, and Chamber President Regina Allison were on hand to see the company's latest line of ballistic-rated and welded enclosures.

The Panel Built team has been producing these structures for some time. They have put their full resources behind the various product lines while rapidly growing and improving this segment of their business. It was imperative that the company increase the facilities, equipment, trained personnel, and know-how to take these projects to the next level. This part of their business employs over 17 people in the Blairsville community and numerous subs and support companies.

The ballistic-rated structures have very specific bullet resistance ratings that must be met to include the walls, windows, doors and HVAC penetrations. Each customer wants something different; paint colors, brick exterior, standing seam roof, gun ports, electric and so on. The company ships the structures to companies and governments all over the country, and even other countries. The company has shipped as far away as South Korea, and are extremely proud of their enclosure at Liberty Island where the Statue of Liberty is located.

"Our plan has been to grow at a 20% per year rate, which we have exceeded," said Panel Built President, Mike Kiernan. "We are up to almost 100 employees and now have four locations here in Blairsville. We have a great opportunity for additional growth and have several new product lines and markets that we will enter over the next few years. Growing up in Blairsville and being able to stay here while serving some of the most respected and important corporations in the world, is a great feeling. I also know what it is like to want to live in our great community, but not have an opportunity to do so because there are no jobs available for the skills that you have. What is exciting about our company and our growth is that we need a large variety of jobs; sales, engineering, drafters, installers, welders, painters, production and much more. We have been able to employ some folks that went away to college, studied hard and got a degree and wanted to come back to Blairsville."

"All of the products at Panel Built take a lot to produce, but this line, in particular, is very custom and complex, and it takes a big team to get the job done. We have a great team that are all willing to do whatever it takes to serve our customers. I want to thank the entire team at Panel Built for all they do and their families that support our mission. I also want to thank the community for all their support over the years, from United Community Bank to the Union County Development Authority, as well as the Chamber of Commerce and all the businesses and people that we so heavily rely on to get our products to our customers. Most of all we want to thank God for all His blessings and supplying all our needs."
