Bilco Opens New Manufacturing Facility in Ohio
Plant Marks Company's Introduction to Plastics Manufacturing
NEW HAVEN, CT/June 5, 2007 - The Bilco Company, manufacturer of specialty access products for the residential and commercial building markets, has opened a new 77,000-square manufacturing facility in Zanesville, Ohio.
The new facility houses both blow-molding and injection-molding equipment used to manufacture Bilco's line of polyethylene products for the residential market. These products include the Ultra Series Basement Door, the ScapeWEL® Window Well System and the new stakWEL(TM) Modular Window Well System. The blow-molded products were previously manufactured under an outsourcing arrangement with a company in Buffalo, New York.
Zanesville was selected for its location in the Midwest, a market with a strong demand for basement-related products. In addition to being nearer to customers, the Zanesville location offers freight, utilities, and other operating cost advantages.
"At a time when many companies are taking manufacturing operations overseas, we are proud to bring jobs to the Midwest," said Bob Lyons, Jr., president of The Bilco Company. "This new operation will provide us the opportunity to grow our business and serve our customers in the region more cost effectively and efficiently."
According to Mr. Lyons, the company hopes to employ approximately 25 workers at the plant by the end of next year. This number could double within the next three years.
At a recent open house, Zanesville officials gathered with Bilco representatives to take part in a luncheon, ceremonial ribbon-cutting and a tour of the facility including demonstrations of the blow molding and injection-molding equipment. Echoing his sentiments of giving back to the community, Mr. Lyons concluded the event by presenting a check to the Miracle League of Muskingum Valley Ohio, a non-profit organization raising money to build a ballpark for physically challenged children and adults.
