Beaumont Health System Wins Security Innovation Award at HIMSS 2014 for Ekahau RTLS Staff Safety Solution

RESTON, Va. – Ekahau Inc., the leader in Wi-Fi-based Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) today announced that its customer Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, Michigan will receive the 2014 "Most Innovative Use for Physical Security" award, given at HIMSS14 by the RFID in Healthcare Consortium, a not-for-profit organization which elevates awareness on the adoption of new technologies. The award is given by a panel of expert judges to the hospital best demonstrating safety improvements through the successful implementation of RFID/RTLS technology. Beaumont Health System will receive the award on Monday, February 24(th) at 5pm EST in the Intelligent Hospital Pavilion, Hall F, HIMSS14. Read the Beaumont Health RTLS case study.

As a large regional health system with 1,738 beds and 14,000 employees, caregiver safety is a top priority at Beaumont Health System, which adopted the Ekahau RTLS staff safety alerting solution to reduce emergency response times to staff duress in inpatient units and the Emergency Department (ED). Employees who feel threatened simply pull down on their Ekahau RTLS badge which operates over Wi-Fi, and their location appears on badges worn by employees near the incident as well as security teams.

"While many hospitals tend to keep quiet about violence in the ED and other areas of the hospital, openly addressing this issue is critical to the safety of millions of health care workers. By implementing a variety of security measures, hospitals can keep caregivers safe," says Terry Kowalenko, M.D., Chair of Emergency Medicine, Beaumont Health System.

"Ekahau congratulates Beaumont for receiving this award and being a leader in adopting Ekahau's real-time location technology to advance the essential job of keeping caregivers safe at work," said Mark Norris, President and CEO of Ekahau.

Ekahau is also featuring its RTLS safety alerting solution in daily demonstrations in the Intelligent Hospital Pavilion's Emergency Department (ED), during HIMSS14. In addition, Scott Lapham, Director of Solutions Consulting at Ekahau is speaking about the Beaumont Health System case study in a session entitled "Ensuring Staff Safety with Location-Based Messaging: Case Studies and Best Practices" at the Intelligent Hospital theatre on Tuesday, February 25(th) from 4:45pm - 5:15pm EST.

Ekahau will showcase its new W4 Wi-Fi patient wristband and its new plug-in A4+ asset tag at the Ekahau HIMSS booth #4311 and Intelligent Hospital Pavilion kiosk #8265-7.
