Bayer MaterialScience LLC CEO Greg Babe to Give Keynote Address at American Society for Quality Conference

The effects of perfect orders and no-touch processes on customer-employee relations

Pittsburgh, May 2, 2008 -- Bayer MaterialScience LLC (BMS) President and CEO Gregory S. Babe will deliver a keynote address at the upcoming American Society for Quality's (ASQ) World Conference on Quality and Improvement. The conference will be held May 5 -7, in Houston.

In his speech, "The New Untouchables: How Perfect Orders and No-Touch Processes Can Change the Game," Babe will highlight BMS's progress toward its ambitious goal of achieving perfect orders - without human intervention - 100 percent of the time.

"The ASQ is the world's leading membership organization devoted to quality, and BMS shares the ASQ's ongoing quest for quality," says Babe. "So, naturally I'm pleased to be able to share a Bayer quality success story with the hope that other companies can profit from our example, and begin to discover those rewards themselves."

Babe's speech will describe BMS's 'no touch' process for customer orders, involving no human intervention. The 'no touch' method not only lowers internal costs for the company, but also improves accuracy.

Babe will explain how this all-encompassing approach to quality is helping to move quality into the management mainstream by focusing on the customer rather than "fixing" the process. This perception shift translates into improved order accuracy, while also motivating employees to meet customers' needs. The outcome, as Babe reinforces, benefits the business and the customer.
