AVM Supports VoIP Quality of Service with the Open-Source Project OpenSER

BERLIN, February 23 -- AVM continues to improve quality assurance in Voice over IP. In the future, the Berlin communications specialist will also work together with the SIP Express Router (SER) by the Open Source project OpenSER. As a first step in this collaboration, AVM has placed source code components under the GPL
license for the OpenSER project. In the future, VoIP terminal equipment such as FRITZ!Box by AVM will transmit quality analysis data at the end of each call to the SIP server that routed the call-in this case, to the OpenSER project's SIP Express Router. This means that connection quality no longer needs to be estimated from isolated sample values for delay, jitter, and packet loss ratio. Instead, VoIP providers can obtain a precise picture of the network quality in real time. Thanks to the flexibility of the SIP architecture, these QoS monitoring functions can be integrated in VoIP with no changes in the infrastructure.

"This initiative of AVM is an excellent step forward to realise monitoring and improvement of end-to-end quality of speech. Accounting and logging for QoS messages generated by the AVM devices is very easy to achieve with OpenSER SIP Proxy because it is highly customisable with regards to what information can be accounted. We would like to see this step taken by all other SIP device manufacturers," says Adrian Georgescu, Founder of AG Projects and member of OpenSER management board.
