Atlantic City Convention Center Installs Big Ass Fans

Four New Powerfoil(TM) Fans Will Increase Energy Efficiency in Convention Center and Cut Heating Costs

(Lexington, KY) February 19, 2009 - The Big Ass Fans Company, the preeminent designer and manufacturer of huge ceiling fans for industrial, institutional, agricultural, and commercial facilities worldwide, announced today that four of its popular Powerfoil fans were installed in the Atlantic City Convention Center. This will mean significant reductions in energy costs for the facility and marked improvements in year-round comfort for its visitors.

The four Powerfoil fans, two 16' and two 20' foot diameter ceiling fans, significantly reduce heating energy costs throughout the winter in large commercial spaces by improving air circulation. The aerodynamic design of the airfoils and wingtips allows the fans to move vast amounts of air very efficiently. Evenly distributing heated air in a large space means thermostats can be lowered with no loss of comfort at the floor, and heat loss through the roof is greatly reduced. During the summer, the fans can lower the perceived temperature of a building and supplement traditional cooling methods thereby lowering energy costs.

"Each fan will save the convention center $20,000 per year by reducing our heating costs," said Janet Mitrocsak, Director of Facilities for the Atlantic City Convention Center. "The fans will circulate the warm air near the 91-foot ceiling back down to the floor."

"The low energy usage of the fans makes them ideal for heat recirculation," said Stephen Bird, Powerfoil Product Manager at The Big Ass Fans Company. "Heat recirculation via Big Ass Fans is a proven energy saving solution and can be an important part of an organization's overall sustainability strategy."

"We are continuously looking for new opportunities to reduce energy expenses", said Charlie Beirne, Regional General Manager for facility management company SMG. "Between the 2.36 megawatt rooftop solar array to our newest installation, the Big Ass Fans, the Atlantic City Convention Center has and will remain committed to seeking out and improving energy conservation efforts throughout the facility."

The Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority (ACCVA) has instituted a series of green initiatives at the Atlantic City Convention Center including the largest single-roof solar power array installation in the United States. The ACCVA is a founding member of the Convene Green Alliance, a grass-roots, industry initiative spearheaded by several associations that seek to affect positive environmental practices through national, regional and local outreach and education. Visit www.atlanticcitynj.com/meeting_planners/green_initiative.aspx for more information.

Big Ass Fans can also help a commercial buildings earn LEED points in the Energy and Atmosphere, Innovation and Design Process and Indoor Environmental Quality categories within the Green Building Rating System(TM).

Big Ass Fans designed and holds the patent for the airfoils and the winglet on the tip of the airfoil which are integral to the fan's ability to redistribute air efficiently and which boosts fan performance by 7 percent. A typical Big Ass Fans fan costs less than 10 cents an hour to operate.

Big Ass Fans are made in the United States and UL listed in the U.S. and Canada. For more information on the complete line of Big Ass Fans, call 877-BIG-FANS or visit www.bigassfans.com.
