ASTM International Will Hold Workshop on Whole Building Air Leakage Testing in October
W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -A workshop on Whole Building Air Leakage Testing will be held Oct. 21 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta in Atlanta, Ga. Sponsored by ASTM International Subcommittees E06.41 on Air Leakage and Ventilation Performance and E06.55 on Exterior Building Wall Systems, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the October standards development meetings of Committee E06 on Performance of Buildings.
The workshop will include two sessions, each of which will consist of a series of three presentations followed by a panel discussion:
· The morning session will focus on case studies intended to illustrate the appropriate use and application of test standards governing whole-building air leakage testing and the range of potential consequences associated with the misapplication of those standards and/or misinterpretation of the test results.
· The afternoon session will build on that discussion by exploring the limitations of whole-building air leakage testing in the broader context of actual construction practice and the need to obtain reliable test data at milestone intervals during construction. Actual air leakage rates recorded to date on a representative range of building types in the federal building inventory will be presented and discussed, with an eye toward current building code and regulatory requirements for energy use in buildings and the role that whole-building commissioning and building enclosure commissioning can play in achieving those goals.
