Papers are Invited for ASTM International Symposium on Pesticide Formulation and Delivery Systems
W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. —Papers are invited for the 34th Symposium on Pesticide Formulation and Delivery Systems: Translating Basic Science into Products. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E35 on Pesticides, Antimicrobials and Alternative Control Agents, the symposium will be held Oct. 22-24, 2013, at the Hyatt Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla., in conjunction with the standards development meetings of the committee.
The symposium title is based on the concept that the foundation of innovative products comes from basic science or ideas. A great example is the discovery of Bacillus thuringiensis or Bt, used as a toxin for insects, which lead to a robust biological control industry as well as genetically engineered crops. Another example is the basic research into the toxicity of many solvent systems that resulted in increased efficacy as well as safer agricultural practices. Many topics will be apparent within this theme and papers are requested but not limited to the following topics:
• Advances in seed coating technology or seed treatment- may include formulation and performance advances;
• Novel delivery techniques - papers may include new equipment, new carriers, etc.;
• Encountering resistance and ways to overcome it - for example, GMOs in agriculture and where we stand;
• Old pests- new solutions - pests that have made a comeback and new solutions to control them (a good example would be bedbugs);
• Regulatory Updates- this may include EPA position on GHS, PRIA 3, etc.;
• Biological control agents;
• Biopesticides and biorationals;
• Spray technology; and
• New test methods.
To participate in the symposium, presenters/authors must submit and attach a 250-300 word preliminary abstract no later than March 18, 2013. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published. The symposium chairman will notify you via postal mail by March 29, 2013, of your paper’s acceptability for presentation at the symposium.
Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Selected Technical Paper (STP), an online and printed, peer-reviewed publication for the international scientific and engineering community. After the final selection of abstracts has been approved, the ASTM Editorial Office will send authors’ instructions via email only. Manuscripts to be peer reviewed for the STP are due online no later than Oct. 15, 2013, at the ASTM Editorial Office.
