ASTM International Committee on Copper and Copper Alloys Names Eric Boes as Chairman



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., - Eric Boes, corporate quality engineer for Delta Faucet Co. in Indianapolis, Ind., has been named the new chairman of ASTM Committee B05 on Copper and Copper Alloys. The committee is responsible for more than 140 standards published annually in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards.

Boes, who is currently serving a three-year term on the ASTM board of directors, also leads Subcommittee B05.91 on Editorial and Publications and serves as secretary of B05.93 on Terminology. Committee B05 recognized Boes' contributions to the standardization of copper and copper alloy products with an ASTM International Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow in 2003. In 2004, Boes became founding chair of Subcommittee B05.94 on Strategic Planning. The subcommittee took action to develop, approve and implement a strategic plan for B05, including the establishment of an ongoing workshop series and major revisions to committee bylaws.

In addition to his work with B05, Boes is user vice chair of Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys and a member at large on Committee B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys. He participates on a number of other ASTM committees as well, including B07 on Light Metals and Alloys; E01 on Analytical Chemistry for Metals, Ores and Related Materials; E11 on Quality and Statistics; F17 on Plastic Piping Systems; G01 on Corrosion of Metals; and the Joint ASTM/NACE Committee on Corrosion. He also served a term on the ASTM Committee on Standards, for which he received a Service Award. Boes has been an ASTM member since 1991.

Boes assumed his role at Delta Faucet Co. in 1998. His career concentration has been primarily in the areas of supplier quality assurance and product development, auditing, metallurgical engineering, technical service and standards development. He is an ASQ certified quality engineer, a certified quality auditor, a certified quality improvement associate and a certified manager of quality/organizational excellence.

Outside ASTM International, Boes is a member of the American Foundry Society, the American Welding Society, ASM International, the American Society for Quality and the Standards Engineering Society. He holds a B.S. in metallurgical engineering from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Mich.
