ASTM International Committee on Water Honors Dr. Jay Gandhi with Award of Merit
Jay Gandhi, Ph.D., regulatory affairs manager at Metrohm USA in Friendswood, Texas, has received the ASTM International Award of Merit. It is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities, and includes the title of fellow.
Gandhi was honored for his work on ASTM Committee D19 on Water. He has contributed to the development of several standard test methods and interlaboratory studies related to inorganic constituents in water. An ASTM member since 2003, Gandhi serves as D19 second vice chairman, and leads the D19 section on Long-Range Planning. He is also an active participant on several other ASTM groups, including the committees on Petroleum Products, Liquid Fuels, and Lubricants; Coal and Coke; Soil and Rock; Waste Management; and Industrial and Specialty Chemicals, among others.
Gandhi has developed several industry and market-based applications using instrumentation like gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, ion chromatography and mass spectrometers during his scientific career. He was a principal scientist at NASA’s Johnson Space Center before joining Metrohm as an applications development chemist in 2002. Gandhi assumed his current role in 2012.
A published author in several technical books, Gandhi is a member of the American Chemical Society in addition to ASTM. He is a graduate of Gujarat University in Ahmedabad, India, where he received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in chemistry, and his doctorate in analytical chemistry. He continued his education in the U.S., earning a master’s in computer science and a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometer, at the University of Houston.
